Over 750 seniors throughout Northwest Ohio attended the Area Office on Aging’s, AOOA, 22nd annual Holiday Party. Held on Friday, December 8, at the Premier Banquet Hall, 4480 Heatherdowns Blvd, the event is an opportunity for friends to share a festive holiday spirit.
Those in attendance had a holiday lunch, and dessert, entertained by dancers, such as the “Off Broadway Dance Company, enjoyed the sultry jazz sounds of Ramona Collins, and have the opportunity to put in any last minute Holiday request, to jolly old St. Nick, and his wife.
Billie Johnson, President/CEO of AOOA, told The Toledo Journal that it was their largest Holiday Party to date.
“This event is the perfect place, and time, for friends to come together and enjoy one another,” she said.
Further, as Mrs. Johnson walked around greeting those at the party, she received positive feedback about the current event, as well as those in the past.
In addition, seniors had the opportunity to meet AOOA’s new board chair; former media personality, Bill Harris.
Mr. Harris said he became involved in the plight of seniors back in the 1970s when he did a story on the group.
“I was really moved and astonished at the challenges they faced. From that point on, I’ve always made an effort to work for the cause of area seniors,” he said.
For Nancy Snell, it was her first time attending, but she stressed, it wouldn’t be her last.
“This is so wonderful. Everyone here is so happy. I definitely plan on attending next year,” she said.
Frances Ester is no stranger to the event; it was her fifth time attending.
“I love seeing everyone so happy. I will never miss another event, and I would encourage anyone not to miss it,” she said.
