George Snelling a retired Fire Fighter and member of the Corvette Club of Toledo says he was watching the news and he witnessed a lady with children being given a gallon of water to help assist her with the water crisis in Flint, Michigan; Mr. Snelling said how does one survive on that amount of water with 3 children, Mr. Snelling had already donated a pallet of water, but he felt that just would not be enough and seeing a woman and her children being given one gallon of water is was what prompted Mr. Snelling to make some phone calls to get a account started to donate Money towards a semi truck trailer filled with bottle water for the Flint Water Crisis.
Franklin D. Lewis also a retired Fire Fight and a member of the Corvette Club of Toledo says George Snelling called him and told him of his idea about sending as many semi trucks filled with water up to Flint Michigan, Mr. Lewis’s response was that of total support and he says he can feel the pain of those in Flint but he understands due to the fact that Toledo had drinking and bathing water issues back in 2014.
Edwin Muhammad Board Member of Toledo Urban Federal Credit Union says what this gathering here today really shows is that we can come together and do what we know is the right thing to do, not just for African Americans, but for humanity as well. Mr. Muhammad says this started with a phone and an Idea from Mr. Snelling, I then called my right hand man Ray Wood of the NAACP Toledo chapter and we knew that we had to start an account at the Toledo Urban Federal Credit Union Specifically for Donations.
President Ray Wood of the NAACP Toledo Chapter and Board Member of the Toledo Urban Federal Credit Union expressed that first and foremost these people here today are more than their organization and/or business titles they are community activist they are involved in the community and have sympathy for a community that is going through a crisis that we as Toledoans are so familiar with; this is a perfect opportunity for people to come together and show that we can work together and put other peoples needs ahead of ours.
CEO/President of Toledo Urban Federal Credit Union Suzette Cowell says I think it is great that we can come together as a community and help out another community in a time of need, these individuals are not doing this for fame, they just knew it was time for us as a people to step up, and they stepped up, so when they called me would could I say, but yes let me support this cause.
