On Sunday September 18th 2016 Indiana Ave Missionary Baptist Church hosted its Annual Women’s Day service. The theme for Indiana Ave Missionary Baptist Church 70th Annual Women’s Day was ‘Women of Grace; Chosen, Consecrated, and Empowered to Walk By Faith.’
Sister LaGwanda Joyce Parker a member of the Sunday Welcome Committee explained, “Women’s Day is a day that we take a verse and/or verses in the Bible that illustrates good moral conduct and principle that not only women should follow but collectively as Christians should be followed and upheld. A Keynote speaker is usually the one, or one of the people, who explains the verse or verses to the congregation and make connections with what is said in the Holy Book and how we should apply in our daily lives. It is a celebration of Christian women and how we should apply the principles and uphold are values as servants to the Lord.”
Sister Marie Dunlap-Ali, the key note speaker for women’s day, used 2 Corinthians12: 9, and Romans 5:1-2, quoting both scriptures, “But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on you. Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.”
Sister Dunlap-Ali explained how these two excerpts out of the Bible were the inspiration coinciding with the theme of the celebration. She continued to elaborate that as Christians, we are not of ourselves and it is important to walk by faith, because it is not an easy walk but it is a daily walk. So, it is imperative to stay well read in the Holy Book and immersed in prayer for guidance from the Lord to walk in faith.
Evelyn Joy the Daughter of Sister Marie Dunlap said that, with the recent event that have been taken place in their family with her father suffering from a massive heart attack and being unable to play his traditional role in the household. Her mother has had to step up and do things normally not required of her, “So, I think it is appropriate for to be chosen as the keynote speaker, because, what she has been going through in the last several months exhibits everything that the theme is made of for this woman’s day celebration, that is she is a Woman of Grace; Chosen, Consecrated, and Empowered to Walk By Faith,” she said
