Phillips Temple CME Church members believe that religious people can dress fashionable, and, have a good time while holding on to their religious faith. They put that belief into action on Saturday, April 16, at Bethlehem Baptist Church’s, New Life Center, 1430 W. Bancroft , during their Men and Women’s Day Fashion Show, themed, “Evolving in Style.”

Denise Howell, co-chair, explained the meaning of the theme.

“We’re about to celebrate our 98th anniversary, so the theme describes how we, as a church, have evolved over those years,” she said.

Part of that evolution Mrs. Howell said, is seeing the importance of enjoying life, and having a good time; both of which, helps keep, and attract others to the church.

“The Bible said make a joyful noise unto the Lord. There are other passages that speak to the joy of the Lord. religion doesn’t mean sitting, and not doing anything,” Mrs. Howell said.

Diane Bone was amongst those in the audience, who was enjoying the show. “I think this event is very nice. Christians are supposed to enjoy life. This is good for the young people.”
